Goal to a carbon free world(is it too late?)

Updated: Dec 15, 2024

Is a carbon free world still possible ? What's the cost ?

I am researching climate change and global warming . I think it is an important issue everyone should have more knowledge in and care about more because earth is our home and we are destroying it . Climate change is due to carbon dioxide and greenhouse emissions for the most part . Carbon dioxide is the most dangerous and common greenhouse gas and is at the highest atmospheric level ever recorded! greenhouse gas emissions are so high because of humans dependence on luxuries and because of humans releasing carbon dioxide into the air by burning fossil fuels.

In a National Geographic article, the author Christina Nunez writes, “the gases absorb solar energy and keep that heat close to earth's surface, this trapping of heat is called the greenhouse effect (“Carbon Dioxide levels are at an all-time high”).

No matter how quickly we reduce emissions, the reality is that certain climate impacts are unavoidable . Temperatures break records every year & sea levels are rising . An organization called “Union of concerned scientist” states in an article called “solutions” that “The first step would be to adapt by building more adaptable cities and planning for water scarcity. We need to build a better transportation system and we need climate friendly agriculture . Then to actively remove carbon from the environment , plant new forests and restore old ones . Also there are technologies that suck CO2 out of the air , capture and store them.” But the article doesn't mention the reason why these technologies that suck CO2 out of air arent at a rapidly expanding industry . The problem is the cost , states Maggie Koerth in an article named “Why carbon capture hasn't saved us from climate change yet” . We need to act. We need everyday people , activists and experts fighting for change. From school groups to churches , boardrooms to mayors & local leaders . Sandra Mack gave me a few tips for everyday people to help .We can reduce our CO2 emissions by riding a bike , taking the bus or your feet to school or work . We can reduce our home heating and cooling by planting and maintaining trees and shrubs around your house to provide shade . Finally we can eat less red meat or eat grass fed meat. I will help make a difference by informing my family and friends about this topic and help reduce carbon emissions. I love to eat plant based food. I will ride my bike, I will continue to recycle, I will turn down my heat and grow a garden and I will convince my family to do the same . So I will become an activist in this community to spread awareness so that people will help change and save the planet .

Anything we can do to reduce carbon emissions is important no matter how small . Because if only a few grams of carbon dioxide is released by doing simple things can add up so quickly, then maybe reducing a few grams can also add up too. If we want our next generation to have a better quality of life then we need to do whatever we can for them . The challenges and transformations we should make are worth it to our next generations , the lives of our next generation matters more than society's habits. My future goal for this issue is for climate change to be slowed since it can not be completely stopped it should at least be slowed . My goal is for everyone to be aware of this issue and take it into consideration
