How dependence on technology affects climate change

Did you know that sending an email , doing a quick google search , or replying to a couple messages come with a small cost? With each activity you perform online a couple grams of CO2 are released due to the energy needed to run and power the wireless networks you access . Although a couple grams isn't a lot, 4 billion people are now using the internet everyday. The carbon released from technology is similar to the amount of the airline industry's carbon footprint worldwide - Mike Hazaz at Lancaster university . And these emissions are expected to double by 2025! Popular music videos such as baby shark and despacito leave a large footprint since they both have been viewed almost 10 billion times. Even a small email that includes a picture emits 50g of CO2. If every adult in the Uk sent one less “thank you” email it could save 16,433 tons of CO2 a year equivalent to taking off 3,334 diesel cars off the road. Humans have modified the world in order to support habits and dependence on luxuries . Also every single section of our global economy from manufacturing, transportation, to agriculture use fossil fuels. Fossil fuels such as coal and natural gas, which are burned to make electricity, are the worst energy source because they release dangerous gas into the environment. All of these industries must stop using fossil fuels in order to avoid the worst effects of climate change. When I interviewed Sandra Mack, a science teacher who teaches about climate change, she said, “In 2015 the average person in the US emits 27 tons CO2 each year . Humans have to decarbonize fast and it will happen eventually , but the quicker we do it the less suffering for billions and less extinctions but we will be forced to do it anyways”
