What is the Willow Project ?:

Well one day I was doing my best friend's nails and she tells me “have you heard of the willow project ?” I never heard of it so I told her to explain . She shows me an article on her news app. The news she told me was devastating and confusing to me so I did some research. The project is controversial to say the least..

The willow project is a 8 billion dollar venture that was accepted by the biden administration for drilling land for oil . It will be constructed by Conocophillips, an energy company that has been drilling for years in Alaska's north slope .The project will be in Alaska's national petroleum reserve which is owned by the federal government. The project is estimated to produce $44 billion in revenue . The project will produce almost 600 million barrels of oil over 30 years. Alaska lawmakers support the project for the job opportunities and it will be a source of state revenue to fund education and health care.

The Willow Project not good at all and Everyone knows it !

The disadvantages definitely outweigh the benefits from the project, any person with common sense would agree . Yes, the drilling will produce lots of energy for the world to use for fueling cars , heating buildings, road oils, making plastics and will produce lots of electricity . Petroleum oil is useful for almost everything we do. But the disadvantages make the advantages seem completely worthless ! Almost 3 million signatures were signed to petition against the willow project on change.org along with 1 million letters being sent to the biden administration complaining about the project. Even an environmental law group called EarthJustice with 200 environmental lawyers are taking a stand against the project.

The impact:

The willow project will release almost 300 million tonnes of carbon dioxide into the planet . (277 million to be exact) . Carbon dioxide or CO2 for short is the most common and most dangerous greenhouse gas. Even the Biden Administration Estimates that the project will produce 9.2 million metric tonnes of planet warming pollution each year . Which is Equivalent to adding 2 million gas powered cars to the road. The project is a serious threat to species like Polar Bears and caribou .

How Jo Biden broke his promise :

I had hope in Biden for president when he talked about his “goal to carbon free electricity” . Also In 2020 Biden had a campaign before he became president. During Biden's 2020 presidential campaign, Biden vowed to end new oil and gas drilling on public lands and waters.

He had climate goals . He stated “No more drilling under my presidency “period period period''. He broke this promise when he accepted the proposal from Conocophillips .
